Endoscopy through the nose
Many people dislike gastroscopy because of its unique pain. However, endoscopic examinations are essential for early detection. Therefore, our clinic has introduced a new endoscopic examination system and adopted a less painful endoscopy through the nose approach to reduce discomfort for patients.
Low-burden nasal endoscopy
Conventional endoscopy uses sedatives to reduce pain, but there are many restrictions and effects on the patient, and there are also concerns about complications.
However, gastroscopy through the nose (nasal endoscope) uses a thinner cable and does not require sedatives because it does not stimulate the most painful areas for patients, such as the tongue and pharynx. Additionally, because the mouth is not obstructed, patients can communicate with the doctor or nurse, reducing psychological anxiety. Furthermore, by illuminating with a special light that makes it easier to detect lesions, even small esophageal cancers can be detected early.

Many people are uncomfortable with colonoscopies due to reasons such as embarrassment about the rectal examination or resistance to taking laxatives, which are different from reasons for discomfort with gastroscopies. At our clinic, we have devised various measures to lighten the burden on patients as much as possible.
Considerations for patients
One of our considerations is the insertion method of the colonoscope. We use a painless method called the "axis-retaining shortening method," and occasionally check the state of the endoscope with X-rays. In addition to adjusting the body orientation and the amount of air in the intestine, we have also introduced a device that adjusts the firmness of the endoscope, and we strive to reduce the burden placed on the patient as much as possible.
Colon cancer is formed from polyps
Polyp is not the name of the disease, but rather a general term for a wart-like bulging protrusion of mucous membrane, but in most cases, colorectal cancer begins with this polyp. Early detection and early resection are very important because the likelihood of polyps becoming cancerous increases as the polyp condition progresses. For this reason, we recommend that patients have polyps detected by colonoscopy removed if they are deemed to be in need of treatment.
Day excision surgery
We perform a polypectomy procedure using specialized instruments to burn and remove the polyps, which is virtually painless. The removed polyps are meticulously examined under a microscope, and if they are benign (or early-stage cancer), the procedure is completed without the need for hospitalization.
If the patient has a chronic disease, is taking medication, or if the polyps we find are in a condition that makes same-day excision difficult, we will collaborate with our affiliated hospitals.
